Ok will have to set a date for planting - any ideas bearing in mind we in the south will have to plant a bit later than usual to allow the rest of the country more favorable conditions. - but then what do we do about the people the other side of the world?

I think you should leave it up to the cunning and clever people here to see how big they can get their sunflowers by whatever means necessary! Plant whenever, feed whenever and on X date or X time of the year measure and publish findings... Just my 2p

No, really if everyone was in the same area, it would be easy.... and perhaps an official start date (for the UK) would show us all how different areas differ... and then if we said we'd try and do it every year, we could see how fast this global warming stuff is affecting us. We could even keep a sunflower blog or something - like - "didn't get watered this week coz we were on hols" or something....

Oh I'll quit waffling now!!!

I don't know that we CAN start on set dates because of the regional variations... I'm guessing that it is every man for himself - but will await confirmation of this

edited to add : that when I said it was a brill idea I meant the blog bit

Well I thought it was mostly decided that it was every person for themselves., but if we want a start date how about 1st March? - obviously for those of us that won't be able to start them off without fear of frost then start them indoors.

The only other rules I think should be organic methods only and no hydroponics.

agreed! 1st March it is... it's now on my calendar.

Are we going to do the blog bit on this thread or should we all start our own individual one?
