Would you plant out seedlings now?

I am only just planting seeds and they are indoors in pots etc. We have had snow this last few days, and the nights have been frosty. But thats what you get weatherwise up here. I often wonder if the soil here ever warms up enough, but with plenty of our well rotted horse manure, we do eventually get good results on most things we plant - but a lot later than a lot of you, I guess.

Planted out baby lettice seedlings , and bordeaux spinach during the warm spell a week ago, since then had snow, frost wind....no problem on the raised beds. The only protection I've put on is some twiggy sticks to stop the bloody next doors cat trying to s**t on them.!

So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli

I havent planted out anything yet. All my seedlings are either inside on windowsills or under cover outside.

I have got a large collection of plastic bottles cut in half though, so may try transplanting a few soon and protecting them with the bottles, just so I have a bit more room in the greenhouse. :flower:

Braved it and put some stuff out yesterday - peas, mange-tout, beetroot, onions.

Basically I needed the space on the windowsill for the next batch so it was sink or swim for what was there already! I'm a hard task-master, me.

I've been wondering just the same thing. I was so proud of my violet podded beans (tragically christened Mr & Mrs Magnificent, oh the shame...) but they were bursting out of their huge pots and needed canes to swing from, so I put them in the PT and some pointy-eared, buck-toothed, white-tailed little b*****d ate them! Nothing else was touched, just the beans. I've got more going crazy on the windowsill, which is groaning with stuff.

Today I started hardening off the things I expect to plant next (by putting them out on the back step for a few hours - is that okay?), but planted out two Meteorite pea seedlings in the PT, protected by cut off lid-on plastic milk bottles so there's no way in, mwaa ha haaaa!

Am turning cartwheels (is that a good idea at 6 weeks pregnant?!) as DH has had a rush of blood to the head and ordered a rotorvator, hurray!

I've got radishs and beetroots out now and the chap next to me has already got his beans out. He's really experienced so I don't think he'd get it wrong.

I've put the bigger seedlings on the back patio for a few hours. But I'm just guessing...
They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?

ha beans out!

anyway, i have onions and raddish doing really well under the cold frame. some baby cauliflower have appeared within the last few days(sown directly out) and i've started to harden off everything that i've had scattered around the house and my mini greenhouse (squash, cabbage, peppers, pumpkin, aubergine, strawbs, mange tout, peas) and nothing has died just yet so i guess it is beginning to warm up... i am rather down south though!!

Well, yes - some of my radish have germinated, too. But everything else is still in the early seedling state, or, in the case of courgettes etc, still in the seed packet!
