Elderflower cordial

Hi Everyone,

I am new to elderflower cordial but I love it! (Making it as well as drinking it).

There a few things I need to get right........ Van anyone help please.


Firstly..... is it true that you can freeze flowers and how do you do that.

Can I use glass bottles with a screw top for my cordial, and how do I stop the bottles from exploding... or do they not do that? The most important thing is how do I store 20 bottles? Is my cool garage good enough and how long will it keep?

I love the forum..... You are all great....... I honestly think that self sufficency (as much as you can) is the way to go. By way of compensating the land for what it gives us, we plant at least 10 trees a year.

I don't know about freezing them but the flowers are usually preserved by drying.

There should be no reason for the cordial to ferment, you just boil up the flowers with water and sugar, this should kill any organism that could possible start fermentation.

If you boil the bottled after they have been filled and lidded, then this should give an airtight seal and they should last a while, that is if you can stop yourself drinking them.

Your advice is appreciated. It is lovely..................... I wonder if I will have enough left to bottle? There are loads of conflicting theories about storing it and I am a bit confused at the moment. (some would say that is my usual state!).

I freeze some of mine ... in plastic bottles with a bit of room for expansion and its fine ... just finished some actually ...
