Hi everyone!

I've hesitated to register on this forum for various reasons, but have now finally registered. My first post (after this) will be on the plastic bag issue. See you there perhaps?

Hi LSP, I must say I was really glad to see your blog, I have just spent ages deleting all the spam members so it was really good to see a real and interesting link in amongst all the poker, on line drugs and other undesirables.

Thank you all for warm welcome.

One reason I was hesitant to sign up was precisely the problem that Andy has been dealing with: people not posting. I am not always able to post. But I will try -- if I have something useful to say.

As for my blogging: I love to write. I think it comes from having an impoverished childhood with few toys, and therefore making it up with lots of imagination that subsequently got translated into words.

It's also far less stressful than writing a weekly column for a newspaper.

Thanks, Shirlz. I hope the need for a 'stockpile' does not mean you are full of cold. Best to you, too.

And yes, MMM, I'm the 'hanky lady' (I rather like that title, actually), or the 'bag lady', or that 'silly being' trying desperately to change people's attitude towards the use of plastic and paper.

Will be busy in the next couple of weeks (reviewing someone's PhD thesis) and not be able to post here.

Bountiful new year to all!

I can proudly report that I have just got through a really nasty cold without using as much as a single paper hanky... I've got so many "real" ones, I only needed to wash them once halfway through my cold! (And it does not get yucky in the machine if you don't overfill it...)

And no, you are not a silly being. I sometimes wish I had the courage to be more outspoken about my opinions - I tend to hope that people see what I am doing, and then start thinking along the same lines. I suppose I am always afraid of being rejected if I voice my ideas too loudly. It has happened, of course.
