BFing in public - petition to Parliament

A well-meaning bill is being put to parliament to protect the rights of of women nursing in public , however the proposed bill only seeks to protect women nursing babies 6 months and under ......the link below is an official petition to the governments of England and Wales (Scotland has legislation that protects the right to breastfeed ANY child in public ), to ask them to lift this arbitrary limit to the bill.

I´m not usually one to sign petitions or pass them around, though the normalisation of breastfeeding is something I am very passionate about and I would ask you all (whether you have BFed or not) to sign the petition to help create a more positive climate for woman who do breastfeed.

I have already signed it! Although I do beliee that the new bill is for children up to a year...it's hard to be sure as the press cant decide if it is 6 months or a year. Either way we wont be covered because Ollie turns one on monday! But that isn't going to stop me bf in public, just try and stop me!!

BFing beyond 12 months? You freak, you must have some kind of psychological problem with letting go I´m joking of course, but I have heard this sort of stuff come out of the mouths of people who should know better.

Good for you (and Ollie), it starts to get tough when they are able to yell "TITTIES MAMA" across a crowded room!

I had such a rough start with ollie that i am amazed we made 6 weeks, let alone a year! The little monkey wouldnt latch on despite a drug free natural birth, and i had to express for 7 days till he finally latched on with a nipple shield. we still use them now, too frightened now that he has teeth that he might explore the new sensation if i latched him on without one and bite me!! it's kind of a security thing for me too now i suspose.

i am sure as soon as he can speak he will embarass me....but we say 'milkies' so not as bad as titties mama!!

I love toddler speak. sophie can't say from properly so it comes out like "f**k" and if she gets really annoyed she will shout "ar$e!". that's hubby's fault.

I signed the petition... for what it is worth, no one in spain cares about swearing. I was half watching a programme on chanel 6 that is for children, midday in school holidays, and the female presenter said F##k (in Spanish obviously "jodes"). If your kid shouted at you across the room "mother you idiot", then people would be shocked. You want to upset a Spanish person question their sanity or intelegence, titties, fecal matters, pudenda or sexual acts are normal vocab, free for all to enjoy.

my sister was breastfed till she was about 3 and we all used to sleep in the same room, i remember her saying "otter one" (or udder one as the case may have been haha!) when she was finished with one boob!

i cant wait to get mine out on the tube and embarass some people yesss! lol

No they are trying to PROTECT the rights of mothers who breastfeed in public by making it an offence to discriminate against them (i.e. a waiter asking someone to stop or leave the café), the petition is objecting to the fact that the bill has it stands only seeks to protect mothers breastfeeding children under 6 months (or maybe a year, there´s some confusion) and is asking that the wording is changed to lift the arbitrary limit.
