East Midlands meet up (please read even if not "local")
A bit of a discussion started off in The Self-Sufficient Bible where a East Midlands meet-up/book signing/forage was suggested. I'd be more than happy to host this at my home in Nottingham. I have a nice sized back garden and if it rained I can move furniture indoors to host there too! I'm close to a number of open spaces suitable for foraging and I could look into public transport access to other spaces such as Clumber Park or Sherwood Forest if there is enough interest.
I'd be happy to do a veggie "barbecue" (I'm hoping to build an outdoor woodburner). If people wanted to bring meat to cook then that's fine too. If people each brought a sweet or savoury dish then that would be lovely and home-grown/foraged would be the best! (but not essential!). I would ban T3$C0 or Nestle products though (my personal politics!).
For anyone who is not local to Nottingham but would like to attend, I don't have a problem with that. There is enough room to pitch tents in my back garden and I have crash space indoors including a double inflatable mattress and a spare single mattress on floor.
My preferred month would be August and I guess a weekend would suit more people?
Let's discuss!

Jybson and I could make it to an East Midlands meet - we're in South Leicestershire and would be happy to car share for anyone else going from thereabouts.
We already have plans for the 2nd/3rd and 30th/31st August but are free all other weekends.
Cheers!

Nik's in Leicester, and i could travel to hers and then up to yours (haha...making plans without consulting her...).
We're probably going to NGG 8-10 August, i'm working the weekend after that... I'm free the first weekend in August though.

Funnily enough, I was just aobut to jump in and say "I could come, and drag The Fee Fairy!"
If it's a weekend I'll need to tell my delightful work that I need to have the weekend off (they like putting me on Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday until close... ALL the time... apparently I cease having a social life when I work there... grr... mini rant over...)
Soo... if we come up with a date and give me a week or so's notice, as I said any weekend will be ok for me (not for Fee though I'm guessing..).
Sounds good... I shall decide what to cook!
Any info on nearest trains/busses would help!!
Bring on the par-tay!

Re: East Midlands meet up (please read even if not "local")
Great! The weekend of 23/24 August is looking best for us as we *might* go to NGG and we're definitely going to Shambala over the bank hols weekend. So shall we pencil that date in?
Nearest train station is Nottingham. There is a good bus service (every 10 mins) out to here (no 28 "pink line"!) which is a bit of a walk uphill from the train station BUT there is a very good tram service which runs directly from the train station up the hill to very near to the bus stop! Better directions can be given closer to the time to those who need it.
For driving type people, we are 10 mins from J26 of the M1. Anyone desperate to come in the East Mids area but are completely without transport PM me as we have an LPG powered car and OH could be persuaded to fetch (especially for sweet foods - he'll do ANYTHING for chocolate or rhubarb crumble
)
Hope Andy can get here to do book signing & lead foraging now!

Just wanted to double-check - is Shambala on the 22-25th August? Is this the bank holiday weekend..? Or have I got my bank holidays mixed up...? (It's all very confusing.)

Typical! That's the bank holiday weekend. I'd love to come (being in South Lincs) but I'll be at the Discworld convention in Birmingham instead! Anyone else? We could always have an ish meet at the con.

Ratty - chocolate and rhubarb crumble sounds divine! How do you do it?
Let us be lovely

Let us be silly and free

But damn it how happy we'll be!

Doh! Stupid me! I looked at the calendar dead quickly & thought "bank hols weekend will be the last weekend of August" - not true! Shambala is on 23-25 August so I'm not able to do that one!
How about the following weekend? 30/31 August? Can people do that one?

I can't do the 30th/31st either! Earlier in August is better for me... the first weekend? Though I think someone said they couldn't do that one... Don't think we'll get a date to suit everyone's schedule!
