Rent a cherry tree!

Post: # 116506Post hamster »

This was on the Food Programme a few weeks ago... you rent a cherry tree from an orchard in Kent, it's £30 this year at least, and they look after it for you and then you get to go and pick all the fruit from it... can be up to 20kg which means you are saving £££ over buying them in the shops! Though you do get them all at once...

Obviously not a convenient location for everybody, but thought it might be of interest. I think I'm going to rent one with a friend or two.

They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?

I'm really seriously looking into this cherry tree thingy and am currently in talks with a friend who may share. I thought it was a great idea because I only have a small allotment so can't have trees. I'd really be interested if anyone else knows about any other schemes like this, for fruit trees, nuts tree, well anything really. I think it'd be valuable info!

Anyway, I found an apple tree place, a bit pricier but lots more choice of specialist varieties, and they send the fruit to you - more of a gift type thing really but I like the idea of these types of things!
