Which pea varieties to sow now?

My Gardenate planting reminder tells me I can sow peas now for harvesting October-November. As my very lovely husband has weeded and rotorvated the far end of the veg patch I'd like to get a fair few pea plants on the go. I'm presuming there are pea varieties specially bred for autumn harvesting? Can anyone recommend one that's worked well for them? I'd like to grow enough that we can freeze them for winter use.

I have always understood that peas like growing in the cooler part of the year ie Spring. I will be interested to learn if anyone has had any success growing peas for autumn/winter harvest? If so will definitely try it myself.

I grow Oregon Sugar Pod (mange tout) all year round although I do live in a frost free area.
As soon as they get leggy I pull them out and sow some more.
In fact I sowed some about 10 days ago and they are about an inch high at the moment, should start producing in a couple of months or so.

Thanks. I might just wang in some of what I've got already and see how we get on, seeing as the growing seasons seem to be all over the place at the moment anyway. Planted a load of potatoes today, probably a really daft thing to do but they were chitting for Britain and it seemed a shame to waste them!

my grandad would sow early peas - like early onward now, as they ripen quicker than maincrop variety.. and you can sometimes get a harvest before the frost comes. never actually tried it

I did some Kelvedon Wonder this time last year, they worked, and some I got from Realseed (french name??)

Yes, as has already been suggested, sow an early variety. Last year I sowed 'Twinkle' from T&M. they are much sweeter than the more traditional earlies and freeze well. I'm going to pop a row in at the weekend.
