how should I best do this? last year I just kind of hacked old and dead bits off, plus some bushy greenness too until it looked neat; but this year I'd like to do it properly

Pruning woody herbs
I have a 4ft rosemary bush (that's height and diameter) in my back garden. it's a beautiful plant tbu I need some tips on how to prune this year. I last pruned just after we moved in and took a massive load off it... but it really needs cutting back again and I want to do it before the cold, wet weather really sets in.

Re: Pruning woody herbs
I asked about pruning rosemary on here last year I think. I just took about 1/3rd of the bush off as was advised (no more) though I think I did it a bit earlier in the year. I don't know if there is any 'proper' way to do it other than to try to make it look neat!
