Hi from Sheffield

Post: # 119966Post howie »

Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to the forum.

My hubbie and I got into self-sufficiency about fifteen years ago after reading St. John Seymour's book. Since then we've kept chickens for eggs, also reared day-olds for meat, bred rabbits, kept ducks, quail, and grown a large proportion of our fruit & veg.
We make our own beer & wine, often from countryside ingredients, cook and eat roadkill, and all our heating, cooking and hot water is provided by a Rayburn run on pallets, foraged wood etc.
People in our village used to think we were mad (specially when they saw me hanging out terry nappies which we used on all our 3 kids), but now there are so many locals growing veg and keeping chickens it does make us a little smug!

PS We haven't shopped at T***o or A**a since 2007 and intend to never go again.

Hiya, Howie, and welcome! I'm another one of those mad people who don't shop at T***'s (or any of the other big ones), nevermind how cheap they make their milk at the moment...

Hi Howie

Welcome aboard! I used to live on the outskirts of Sheffield and still have links with the area. We haven't shopped at T3sc0 for about 3 years now, @sd@ for at least a year and we barely use supermarkets and try to make sure its Co-Op when we do. We cloth nappy too, I just love seeing the washing line full of white/off-white nappies!

Sounds like you have loads of experience you can share with us here
