Bengal Tea

Post: # 128610Post peppermint patty »

Hi I recently had some Bengal tea in an Indian restaurant. It was really nice and they made it with bay leaves and cardoman pods and some other stuff.
I have looked on the web and found some tea bags but would like to make it myself does anyone know what the recipe is?
I am not sure if it just normal tea with spices or speciality tea does anyone know?

I don't know about Bengal tea, but what you describe sounds like chai, which is any kind of tea you like, with added spices.

It's traditionally made with black tea but I like it made with Rooibos. I add a pinch of chai spices - ginger, cardamom, black pepper and a bay leaf (which I've got all ground up in a tiny tin). Simmer, with the tea, in a pan for a few minutes and serve however you like your tea, with or without milk or sweetener.

Even if it's not the same, it's delicious.

Some folks add cloves, or allspice to the above spices.

I like mine with whole milk and a bit of honey, rather than sugar.
