urgent help needed

zachy has chicken pox,,,hes just under two years old.....calomine lotion is doing nothing to stop him from itching and his neck is red raw at the mo.....ive cut his nails etc he wont keep gloves on..he also wont drink any edicine he will spit it out

do you guys know anythng natural non natural that will help with pain and itching please

cool baths with bicarbonate of soda in them will help.

If the itching is extremely bad the doctor may give you some antihistamines for him

Poor thing, I know exactly what you are going through as we're just (hopefully) coming to the end of a similar problem - my 2yo daughter has been gouging out some bites she got.

TBH the only thing that has worked for us is by making it difficult/impossible for her to scratch the scabs, this has meant liberal use of sticking plasters (in all shapes and sizes, you can get really big ones that will cover most of a toddler's back) and stitching the overlong sleeves of her nightgown shut so she can't scratch at night.

I've also been using evening primrose oil on the raw skin to help it repair, it works really well.

There has been a fair amount of nagging and upset too - so big hugs to you both - this too will pass.

EPO is a carrier oil so it comes in the bigger bottles and you don't need to dilute it. I also forgot to say that she has been constantly wearing either tights or full babygros. She's tall for her age but fortunately we managed to find her some for 3 yos, hopefully you can get the same in the UK

the only baby gros in 3 years plus over here are the fleecy type....and i can see them being irritating.....we can get 2 year ons so ill get them and lop the feet of lol

Katie is just getting over them too. When my eldest two had them, they were really itchy and I couldn't find anything to help them. Katie, on the other hand, has barely noticed them. In fact, I don't think she knows she had them.

Thinking about what I've done differently, for one, I haven't pointed the spots out to her (bit too late for you now, but it might help someone else). I figured that if she sees them she'll poke and rub them which will make them itch more. Also, I haven't put anything on them for similar reasons - putting something on them means I would be touching them and that might make them itch. One other thing, which some people will be appalled about, I've tried hard not to wash her too much! I've simply very gently washed any dirty marks off her, but haven't wiped her all over with a flannel or anything. I let her have a soak in the bath, and I rinse her with the water, but I don't use soap.

Like I said, she's not been bothered about them. I don't know if that's because of what I have done (or not done), or if she's just been lucky. Sorry that's not much help to you, Russian Doll, but it might help someone else.

Yeah I second the not washing thing - I didn't want to irritate the bites by making them inflame with hot water, or touch, or soap etc.

My two had it when they were wee and I used a drop of lavender oil, eucalyptus oil and bergamot oil in a cool bath. It cooled the spots, soothed the itching, prevented infection, helped to clear any infection that may have been there and kept them cheerful. It also worked really well when my dad had shingles.
I do hope the wee thing is much better soon
