I had phantastic sunflowers two years ago... Got the seeds sent from a friend in Germany. They were not only tall, but had many flowers to one plant, and the stems were so thick and solid, I've still got some as sticks for climbing plants. Never had sunflowers like that before - and I didn't really do anything special to them!

Mmh, maybe I should ask that friend if she could find another packet of seeds like that...

Titan, Mammoth, Russian Mammoth or California Greystripe are some that you want to be looking out for.

Here are my recommendations on the best sunflowers in the world. Three best varieties for growing very tall are Bott's Strain, Craven, and Richard Hope Giant Single. All three are capable of reaching heights around 20 ft. tall. I'm working on crosses between these three. It may take a few years before I can get anything truly stable.

Hi Sunflower... and :welcomeish:

WOW those are fantastic!!!!

Ummm I grew Bott's strain and mine are midgets - but we are in the north east of Scotland and I didn't have anywhere to plant them - have discovered that sunflowers don't do too great in pots

I've got some seeds left over and will have somewhere to plant next year so will definitely give it a go again. I love sunflowers.

I'm amazed at the stem on the Craven - and good luck with the crosses.

Sunflowers can actually get very large in pots. Below is a picture of my friend's sunflowers in pots, Bernard Lavery (UK).
