my first forray into Burda

i have no pic of the dress cos it looks ridiculous on me. I followed the pattern to the letter, traced and cut the size pertaining to my measurements and it sucks big fat bottoms.

oh well. back to Simplicity lol!!!

I once made some trousers with a Burda pattern. They turned out absolutely brilliantly but it took forever to work out what bits to cut out and they was SOOO complicated to sew. Isn't there some sort of size discrepancy with Burda patterns though?

That's not a sewing pattern, they lie!!!! It's abstract art! I've been looking at free patterns on a website called burda style. They seem pretty easy to follow. I've been learning stuff from my mum so in the new year she'll be showing me how to use a sewing machine so I might try some of them out but these patterns just put me right off!

as you can tell by the fact that the bottle is only 1/4 full (hey, i'm trying to be positive) it's popular here lol!
good with pineapple and coconut juice drink available from t****, great with lemonade, fab with cola (even generic own brand cola) and absofrickinglutely amazing in a chocolate milkshake.

As for the size discrepency in burda, i knew about that so I went by my measurements, not my RTW size... and it still didn't flipping fit properly. think it's 'cos although I am their size 50, I'm not 5'6"... i kind of look like someone who's been squashed in a circus mirror , I'm short and dumpy lol!

I've kept the patterns though. they'll make nice wrapping paper for people who sew

Oh my, the pattern looks horrendous to decipher. I feel sick just by looking at it.

I have been on the burda site a few times - admired the clothes, but not downloaded anything. I think I will give it a miss now.

I found a new site ( to me anyway) and thought you might like a look if you haven't already. I wonder if the patterns are any easier to decipher than burda though.

As I know nothing about sweing or patterns, when I first saw the picture of the pattern I thought that you had started a new hobby...... Astronomy! I thought it was some kind of plan of the star formations!

I think I would need alcohol after trying to decipher that lot!

Sorry the dress turned out crappy MrsF... my wedding dress was Burda and it was the first pattern I followed - maybe that is a baptisim of fire, but it turned out gorgeous....

The above pattern does make sense to me (just concentrate on one colour at a time) - but I don't remember my pattern being all on one sheet like that

Burda is a sewing magazine which comes with a load of patterns and instructions every month.

Kiery, no I've not been on there before. nice site, I'm not sure about Ottobre magazine 'cos I'm not sure i can find a copy to have a nose at lol!
