OMG! Red Dwarf crochet!!!
as those of you who know where the heck my username comes from (series 5 episode 1 red dwarf, quarantine, psychotic hologramatic penguin hand puppet...) you may have guessed I am somewhat of a red dwarf fan.
As such, I was invited on craftster to take part in a red dwarf craft swap. I jumper at the chance, hooks in hand waving them wildly and wondering whether I should crochet a ship0 or a penguin with red eyes..........
obviously it's starbug; ship to surface vehicle of the jupiter mining corporation's ship Red Dwarf.
I made starbug 2 cos kryten (the robot) crashed starbug 1 on his driving test.........anyways, this was made to be sent to colorado of all places!!
it's made in a crochet form called Amigorumi, a japanese close weave crochet done with standard yarn and a very very small hook. I used a die-cast model of starbug1 to work from.
mmmmm. i love the smell of nerd in the morning.
edited cos i used wrong picture links.

Yet again well done Mrs Flibble.
I keep thinking of Kryton when I watch the actor in the programme "How do they do it". It's really quite wierd seeing him as a normal human being - he's still very much like Kryton the character though!

Re: OMG! Red Dwarf crochet!!!
i like to watch how do they do it cos he reminds me of the RD episode DNA; series 4 ep 2......... kryten gets transformed into a human by a machine which also creates a monster from dave's vindaloo.....

I'm speechless! that is unbelievably cool!!!!
if it's for a craft swap does that mean you'll have to part with it? i guess you'll get something cool in return though.
i'm a massive fan too- can't wait for the new episode at easter...

Re: OMG! Red Dwarf crochet!!!
I've done one other organized swap, and a personal swap. the organised one i love what i got back cos it's a really efffective tea cosy made with drawstrings top and bottom, and a spout and handle hole, a big T on one side and a tulip on the other knitted out of recycled wool by another hippy typer (she got a princess castle shaped, paisley patterned cafetiere cosy complete with flag on top and battlements...) so i was pleased with that, and in the personal swap i swapped the mouse mooncup holder for a beautiful beaded necklace for my yarncutter pendant. i sent the lady the pendant and she beaded around it. it's beautiful and i love it. i have high hopes for the RD swap lol!!
yes i will have to get rid of starbug, but i am thinking of making another!!!

Oh WOW
that is the shinyiest thing i saw for a long time, I do declare.... I adore red dwarf (I have them all on dvd and watch far too often, I even have a mr flibble hand puppet. Don't ask why because I don't know. And anyway he might fry me alive with his hex vision if I tell - who'd clean up all the mess?)
That is just fab... how did you do it? (sorry if thats already been asked/explained, I just saw the photo and hit 'reply' as soon as i could!!!!)

Re: OMG! Red Dwarf crochet!!!
well i studied amigorumi after getting fairly good at other tyupes of crochet. Basically i learned how to make a sphere, then worked from there. the body is stitched in one piece by increasing and decreasing stitches. the retro jets are also ami style (one piece, single crochet, formed in rounds) and were then stitched onto the body.
the legs are bag ties wound round with yarn and the feet were a clover/shamrock crochet pattern i found online lol!
the embroidery was all done afterwards by studying a die cast model of starbug1.
i shall put the red dwarf shaped keyring i also crocheted and the wooden box which i decorated with an ouroboros snake painted onto it online later lol!
it was fin combining two of my great loves. crochet and The Small Rouge One.

Re: OMG! Red Dwarf crochet!!!
I am totally in awe of your creative skills as usual Mrs Flibble! I've really missed seeing your creations. I should get myself back on Craftster too!
I bought a couple of books on amigurumi but have yet to master it.
