I've been growing mushrooms in a polystyerene box indoors.
At first nothing happened and I was going to give up.
Eventually I have a few mushrooms, not many. But they all have what look like smaller mushrooms budding out of them.
(1) Are they ok to eat?
(2) How did this happen? I think the compost wasn't warm enough in the first stage, before I covered them in other compost. There are a lot of fibres on the surface.
Thanks
I've got mushrooms on my mushrooms. wtf?

I don't know, but the concept of mushrooms growing on mushrooms is a strangely beautiful one.
Any chance of a photo?

Is this a bought mushroom kit and what kind of mushrooms? The plain white mushroom kind do have what looks like mushrooms coming out of the sides of the first mushroom that comes up as they grow in clusters. Or do you mean a mushroom actually growing out of the cap of the mushroom? A photo would be great!

This is a B&Q kit. I'll take a pic when I get home this evening.
It's like smaller spheres budding out of larger ones.
I picked the fully grown ones and put them in the fridge. They smell like mushrooms. They look almost like mushrooms. I'm guessing they cook and eat like mushrooms, but I don't like taking a chance with anything in the fungus kingdom.
