corrrrrrr!

I've just been plodding around the internet looking at what other people do on their allotments to see what ideas i think will work on mine as it is just getting going- Billy Childish said a while ago, copy people, it'll do you good!! It's quite suprising how un-laid back some people on gardening forums are?! It's all abit intense for me!!

I think most of us here are very laid back :dave:

Just do what you want, copying people is just going to get you all 'keep-up-with-the-Joneses' and you'll either stress out or give up. Just go with the flow.

I don't think I have stumbled across the unsavoury parts of other gardening forums, but I like it here :flower: :flower: :flower:

There are some very uptight gardeners out there. I think the worst are those who grow only showy flowery stuff and don't do practical gardening. There are some uptight practical gardeners too, but I think not so many. I agree with Annpan. Don't try to copy, be yourself. If you admire someone else's plot, that's great, but use it as inspiration, or something to aspire to if they've been going for decades and you're just starting out. It's your plot, no-one else's. Just enjoy it. :geek:

Maybe he ment 'copy people' to mean, 'if you're not sure what to plant, take a look at neighbouring plots & see what flourishes'? Put this way it's advice we would all give. Some things work better in some areas & not others.

Or maybe he ment people really won't mind if you copy their ideas whilst you're still learning 'cos most gardeners are only to pleased to pass on their knowledge. Afterall wasn't 'mimicry the highest form of flattery'?

Most of here are so laid back we're horizontal!

Thanks for the thoughts folks, and you've got it MuddyWitch, Billy Childish is an artist and was saying about clearly letting your influences show in whatever creative activity you do... I found it more tricky to de-weed and plan my allotment then I expected to so I've just been looking around for inspiration for what i think will work. Nice and laid back and it has been GLORIOUS weather down here! Everybody on our allotments couldn't be nicer and seem to quite enjoy the newbie working away at the weed infested plot.

Gordon did say I had done a cracking job clearing one part and getting the potataoes in which was a real encouragement.

It'll be super when things start to grow :)

Having the allotment is teaching me patients as it'll prob be a couple of years until it's sorted and I'm into a routine that suits me.

My sun tan is going to be super though!!!
