Re: Traditional crafts and their uses
Does silversmithing count?
I do it because I enjoy it mostly but also I think that skills like these are dying out and being replaced with huge companies mechanical methods of making jewellery etc
My OH makes Medieval Armour too... now I know strictly speaking that isn't very likely to make a comeback in the future but it certainly is interesting learning about all the do's and don'ts of making authentic clothing and armour etc.
There's also the fact that when we go and do medieval shows we have to be authentic and that includes crafts, many make their own arrows and some make their own swords... can you put your finger on a local blacksmith these days? I'll bet not many can but keeping things like blacksmithing alive is an important skill imho.
Err... anyway, I hope that makes sense / is what you are after

I'm rather partial to men running around in armour... I've watched many a re-enactment but seeing your very own knight getting a battering really stirs the.... err... blood

Re: Traditional crafts and their uses
I've been looking into making myself a Gittern or Cittern (Mediaeval stringed instrument) and have joined a group that specialises in making and playing them, does that count?
