it's hard to be Ish with only one hand

Yep, I'm typing this with one hand because i've hurt my other one. It was a stupid accident that could have been avoided by me being sensible, but I wasn't and now I can't use my right hand. And yes, I'm right-handed.

I was feeding some branches through an electric shredder and put my hand over the top of the branch to push down on it. Suddenly, it shot back up with a lot of force. The middle bit of my hand is slightly swollen and I have a little mark there - it's between those top two lines (heart and head lines??) and between my middle and ring fingers. Anyway, it hurts an awful lot, right up my arm, especially when I move my fingers, and I can't grip anything. So I stopped shredding wood, and now I can't think what to do. I'm sure I'll be OK tomorrow, but I've never been without the use of a hand and I feel so helpless. I need to go to the allotment but how can I do anything if I can't grip my tools? I need to make bread and was going to make pizza for tea, but how with only one hand? Am I being a baby? Other people don't seem to complain when they are reduced to one hand.

I don't know really why I'm writing this. There's nothing any of you can do. I guess it's really because typing is the only thing I can think of at the moment that I can do with just my left hand. For anything else my left hand is pretty useless.

I broke my right wrist some time ago and being right handed also it was very frustrating. My daughter couldn't understand my reaction when she bought me a crossword book to pass the time! pbf.

Thanks everyone. I'm being such a wuss. It starts to feel better, so I get on with things only to do something silly, like bend my fingers, and it makes it hurt again. I've managed to make the pizzas, and I've started the bread off. OH said he'll knead the dough for me, but I usually knead it the morning after, so I might be OK by then. I'm sure a couple of glasses of home-brew will be good medicine. It must be getting better because I'm now back to typing with two hands.

Really hope you're feeling better soon, it sounds really uncomfortable and sore.
If it is still hurting up your arm tomorrow, I know it will be Sunday but maybe you should get it looked at, there maybe something in it that could do with help to come out, shredders are very vicious.

It's not hard to be Ish with one hand. In fact, you're probably more Ish now than before. After all, you're now "handy-ish".

And it's just as well it's your good hand or I'd probably get a biff around the ears right now.

More sympathetically, are you sure you haven't broken anything? I broke a finger a fair while back and didn't realise for almost a week. Take care.

Poor you and if it is still hurting up your arm today then you need to get it X-rayed! It's quite easy to break bones in your hands and feet as they contain a lot of them. I know!

Thanks every one. It's a lot better today and I can even double my fist fully without screaming (so watch it Stonehead ). I can still feel it, but it's just like a reminder to not do too much with it for another day or so. It's still very slightly swollen, but it's gone down a lot during the night. I think I'll live
