This is the place to discuss not just allotments but all general gardening problems and queries which don't fit into the specific categories below.
(formerly allotments and tips, hints and problems)
I am gradually working my way through household cleaners (all of which are eco anyway) and replacing them with bicarb/white vinegar etc.
Found a recipe for just about everything I need, but does anyone have any ideas for a disinfectant I could use for things like dishcloths & toilet brushes? (Disinfected separately of course!! )
Grapefruit seed extract, lemon, vinegar, Lavendar, cedar, cinnamon, mint all have disinfetant and / or anti bacterial properties. Try googling 'Natural disinfectants' there is quite a range.
pine and lemon essential oils are traditional - that's why, even though synthetic, chemical cleaners are often scented thus. tea tree oil of course too

One can make a fine disinfectant soap by incorperating rosin from pine resin (which fits with Carla's point). Smells a little like the old fashioned coal tar soaps which, pervert that I am, I have always rather liked the scent of.
