101 uses for a playground

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

101 uses for a playground

Post: # 13807Post Shirley »

Ok.. I had to be a little creative with the title but... how about sharing old playground games that are a little selfsufficientish... games that don't require electronic handheld consoles - games that don't go beep beep beep...

1. Elastics... (as mentioned in the 101 uses for breadbag) where you use elastic bands linked together and put them around the feet of two people standing opposite each other (far enough apart for the elastics to be tight) - then a person has to hop/skip for a set amount of time. The elastics get higher and higher as the game progresses.

2. Skipping - an old washing line can be used for this activity and it is one that can be played alone or as a group. Great for keeping fit too and a lovely way of including less popular kids (so long as those holding the rope turn fairly for all)

There are a couple of games we used to play as kids, but I can't remember the names of them. Somebody must know:

12) A bit like hide and seek, but the seeker is defending 'home' and so never wanders far away from it. Everybody else has to sneak back to base without being caught.

13) A bit like leapfrog, but the 'frog' gets longer and longer because for every person that leaps, another one links, bent back, to the leaped. The object is not to get over, but to get more and more people sitting on a longer and longer line of backs, usually until the whole group collapses.

I was always a popular team member for kiss chase, my dad taught me to rugby tackle from a young age and I was fearless at taking the boys out! we girls used to take it in turns to kiss the poor boys that I ensnared!

fond memories
Kind thoughts
