101 ways to cook a spud

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

16. useful if you have oversalted a dish... bung a whole potato in it and simmer til cooked then remove the potato. Food is then less salty.

As you can see, I can't read properly......

ways to cook a potato...

well... after cleaning your rusty knife with a bit of the potato, you could use the other part of the potato to make a potato hash.

After using the potatoes to make prints with (using beetroot juice as the edible paint) you could mash and then pipe the potato into rosettes - duchesse potato style !!

wrap whole washed potatoes in foil and bury (only a little) in hot coals. cook time varies according to how big the potatoes are. serve with butter.

Very brave spuds?

I think I gave two more German potato recipes for potatoes in the recipe section:

Kartoffelpuffer (similar to Roesti, but mixed with an egg, and eaten with apple sauce)

Quarkkeulchen (mashed potatoes mixed with egg and quark, and fried as rissoles)

potato and cheese cakes

potato and leek bake (and countless variations of this, if you want to get to 101 quickly!)

Did we have hash browns?
