Greetings from Ontario, Canada
I was searching for some information on planting lavendar, stumbled across selfsufficientish, and then found all the great information hyperlinked.
Those newspaper pots are a great idea. I've used egg cartons for starting seeds to transplant before, but never thought of newspaper.
I am a strong advocate of sustainable living. I think I've found the right place!

Thanks for the warm welcome
I will go map myself.
I love cats (have two; and a dog).
I remember a children's son or story about MillyMollyMandy from when I lived in England. I loved it of course! The Zed is just one of those funny things to distinguish me from other local Mandys in my community :) It comes from joking with DH about funny name spellings and telemarketers... imagine if I told them my name was "Mandy with a Zed". One day I'll do it. Sheesh, when you need a telemarketer to call they're nowhere to be found. BTW, the zed is silent.
And I have to ask... please explain the newbie Margo reference. Must be a cultural difference.
I am really enjoying browsing the site.

Hallo Mandy, and welcome to the site!
I'm not really the right person to explain the Margo bit to you, not being British myself... Suffice to say, it was a TV series in the 60s? 70s? called The Good Life. Margo was the least selfsufficient one; you'll be working your way "up" through other avatars.
Have a look at the TV forum, further down the page, I'm sure you'll find more info on that.

Aha, well that explains it. Its a generation issue ;) I wasn't born until '80.ina wrote:Hallo Mandy, and welcome to the site!

I wonder what I need to do to demonstrate my selfsufficiency? ;)
Step one: plant garden. I'm working on it. If this darn snow would just stop coating the ground.
Step two: successfully grow vegetables. :crossing fingers and toes:
Step three: finish education, move away from southern Ontario and create earth sustainable, self-sufficient community... working on it.
I do the cloth-everything thing, does that count for something? Almost nothing is disposable in the house.
Do I have to be a Margo?

Sorry, the rules are - after 25 posts you move up to Jerry; after 50 (I think) you are Tom, and then Barbara. Then you get the entire team, and after quite a few more you get to keep your own, without any interference! However, knowing Andy this might be negotiable... (Tip: Just make your own picture a bit bigger - Margo doesn't look quite so overpowering then!)
