chutney face off
this sunday myself the local cafe proprietor and the landlord of the greyhound are pitting our chutneys of against each other at lunch time so if you are near Sutton Bridge and fancy a taste or have a green tomato chutney you,d like to enter turn up , no prizes just a good time

heres the secret chutney was one of the few things I had never tasted but I thought sod it I will have a go the ONLY thing I didnt prodce was the sugar, and the black pepper the rest the marrow, toms ,chillies onions apples mustard(made that)and even the vinegar I did but since making it myself and my wife have been infront of the telly with cheese, water biscuits a lump of ham and doritos can safely say that even tho I dont know if its a good one or not its our new discovery

well I rang my nan lol
3lb toms
1.5 pints vinegar
2lb soft brown sugar
1 lb apples
a few chillis
a big dollop of mustard
lots of black pepper
garlic
1 lb marrow
big dollop of honey(which I forgot to mention & I didnt produce that but I did swap it for a rabbit)
1 large onion
I threw it all in jam pan heated it up a little added the sugar then brought to boil and dropped to simmer , it took 3 hrs to reduce my nan said I would know when its right, turn the heat down low run a cold spoon over the surface if it creates a furrow that slowly goes back its ready, allow to cool a fair bit so the contents are mixed all the way through in the warmed jars

8 floz Milk
4 tbsp Double cream
2 tbsp Butter
2 tbsp Flour
1 tbsp White wine vinegar
2 tbsp mustard seeds blended
1/2 tsp Salt

An old friend once made some mustard. It did not turn out exactly how he planned, some of the mustard seeds started to sprout before he made it and he was unsure about amounts and stuff.
the end result was awesome! it was used at a open day at the cafe, everyone who tried it wanted more.
for days and days after, he made more mustard, none of them the same. He had to stop because he had made far to much but was not happy with any of it.
