RHUBARB - can I plant it now?

Post: # 171350Post bonniethomas06 »

Hi,

Please could you let me know whether I can plant rhubarb now? I have heard that it is best to plant in spring, but I have been given a chunk and want to plant it in the ground NOW so that I have some stalks in spring.

(Oh I know, you aren't supposed to pick first year, but I live dangerously!)

Thanks

If you already have the root, it would be better to plant it out, I think. They're not too happy being transplanted, so potting them up then replanting in the spring might be too much.

You're not likely to get much next spring, and probably best left to give the plant more vigour for the following year.
