Re: buying bristish
Thank you Here's some for a start.
I realise this could get out of hand, so am trying to list sites linking to a few places or places selling stuff I've found harder to get hold of made locally.
madeinlancs.co.uk - mostly food & arty gifts
www.madeincumbria.co.uk - online shop has candles, perfume & jewellry and lists various cumbrian made products plus farmers markets dates and some craft courses.
http://www.hottershoes.com/ shoes made in lancashire - pricey but no more so than any good quality shoes & big sale on now.
http://www.daleswear.co.uk/ Ingleton, north yorkshire - make their own fleeces & waterproof jacket, good prices - couldn't see any sign of these on website but I know they have them in the shop.
http://www.christy-towels.com/ towels made in Cheshire, not sure about the bed linen etc. (were loads of mills near me but last one shut down about two years ago when Dorma moved the production to China )
http://www.britishproductsdirectory.co.uk/ links by region to producers of various things but far from exhaustive list.
If anyone knows where to buy thermals, underwear and socks I'd be grateful.

http://www.woollyshepherd.co.uk/index.asp - with so many sheep you'd think that we would be awash with British woollen products but it seems not so.
http://www.choosebritish.co.uk/ - lot of good ideas and information here.
http://www.buybritish.net/ - another interesting website.
http://lovebritishfood.co.uk/ - there are details of the next Buy British Food fortnight 2010 here.

Re: buying bristish
What about http://www.bigbarn.co.uk/ for local produce? Mostly food but pop in your postcode and see what comes up. I've found that a useful site.
I've also found this lot but don't know anything about them:
http://www.howonearth.co.uk/made-in-britain.aspx - skin care and beauty
http://www.supremeproducts.co.uk/shop.php - horse products
http://www.speedcushions.co.uk/?Made_in_Britain – traffic calming measures
http://www.kid-shops.com/british-products.html - kids stuff
Does anyone have any experience?
http://www.networkartists.org.uk/art_tour.php know a good few of the artists, not sure if they only use British materials though but they do produce locally.
http://www.burleighsmallpipes.com/ - made locally but not local materials. He's good mind you - I've got some and they are real class craft.

[quote="crowsashes"]will this one help http://www.britishthermals.com/
[quote="JillStephens7"]
Thanks crowsashes, not sure thermals with NO cotton in are in the best interests of anyone sitting downwind of me but may give it a go anyway as am too cold to think straight when my one decrepit pair have their (way too occasional) wash

Re: buying bristish
There is http://www.wigglywigglers.co.uk who make and grow most of their products in and around their farm.
The goat socks are particularly good according to my mum who received some for Christmas.
The bird food is all grown locally aswell.

ive tried knitting a pair of socks! still trying hard to get the technique right think im attempt no 3 i cant wait to master it as then i can justify getting a nice lovely ball of wool rather than the acrylic mix im practicing with.

Re: buying bristish
My supply of wooly socks knitted by my great aunty Kitty (who died long before I was born and so came to me via my grandad then dad), is finally coming to the end of the road.
Though somewhat sad, this is also somewhat of a relief as whoever they were knitted for (my great uncle?) had much larger feet than me, so am looking forward to getting some wooly socks that actually fit me!

Re: buying bristish
i purchased some thermals from British Thermals for my mum, she's very anti internet shopping and the cheecky beggers charged me for post and packaging despite my requesting they take it off.
It was meant to be free after £50
The thermals were fine I believe but , not great customer service.
