Price per unit of electricity

How much do you pay per unit of electricity

We live in a cabin on a friends land and get the electricity from his industrial unit

When we first moved in electricity was free he said but he informed us that in November he fitted a meter.

We haven't had to pay an electricity bill for over eight years because we were living in a van so we don't really know what it costs these days.

He is charging 14.5p a unit. Dose this sound about right?

scottish hydro charge me 17.88p so you are doing OK there.

living in houses is surprisingly expensive, money sort of trickles out for everything.
poll tax is the worse (I know they now call it council tax but it is the same thing)

That's interesting, our rate is not as bad as I thought then.
We pay 14.08c which at today's exchange rate is 12.3p

29.something cents/kwh, although if you use more than a certain number of units a month, that drops to something like 20ish...

We are at €0.1078 per kilowatt-hour (£0.0943), but do have a standing charge to pay that works out to about £58 a year.

We pay $0.07 per kWh. If I've figured the exchange rate correctly, that's about 4p per kWh.

We pay 9.8p per unit with a daily rate of 15p or thereabouts, from Scottish Hydro - interesting to note john Headstrong saying that he pays 17.88p for his and lives in Scotland !!

Wow you are a low user then if you only need a 3kVA supply! I'd blow that in an instant with all my appliances!

I'm on Tempo so my blue day peak is just over 7c. However on a red day it is over 50 cents! Our standing charge is over €200 but that depends on how much power you need. We need 12kVa as we are on tri-phase, otherwise it would be 9kVA which is obviously cheaper.

Interesting to note all the different prices in the UK. It's much easier just having one supplier - I can't imagine shopping around for power and having to keep changing it all the time to the cheapest.

It is almost as confusing finding your way around EDF's tariffs and charges.

We started on the low draw with one light bulb and one socket, then discovered several live wires randomnly poking out of walls and window sills as we went around the house.

We resolved to stay at the low usage and we have managed so far - no hairdryers, shower heaters, vacuum cleaners, electric kettles or other high draw items - we just turn the house supply off if OH needs to use some high draw tools in the barn.

We have no electric heating, and one chest freezer which is always full to overflowing. Our lighting is solar powered, and we have solar power battery chargers for the laptop, as well as a solar vacuum tube panel for hot water in the summer and the Rayburn providing hot water in the winter. Our main draw is in the winter for things like TV, and DVD player, and the playstation 3.

My teen made me laugh - she has adapted to life here so well that when my mother tried to send her some hair straighteners for Christmas, she made her grandmother go and check the box for the kw draw on them before accepting them!

so about 11.1p total

YOU WANNA TRY BRITISH GAS TARRIFS - - can never make head nor tail of how they work it out - so much for the first so many units then so much for the rest ,then economy 7 ( ditto ) - any ways according to the news this morning they are warning that :

a; there may well be power outages /brownouts by 2020 in the UK as the demand for power go's up

and b: that a lot more people are not going to be able to AFFORD the energy they use

( according to some expert or other )

well deep joy so looks like investing in ANYTHING that removes the need for electric /gas - and in solar panels etc + lots of batteries could be a VERY good move

I have to admit to sitting shivering because unfortunately I have a prepaid meter left from the last owner, is very expensive. Can;t afford to set myself up the way I want to though ie: solar and the such
