potentially damaged plants?

Post: # 199646Post crowsashes »

little one today has decided he would water the garden, only problem is he did it wil ecover laundry liquid :banghead: he even dispensed it into the watering can before wreaking havoc on the plants!!

thankfully it was in the potted strawberrys tomatoes and peas so i was able to scoop out as much of the 'contaminated' soil as i could and successfully washed the soap off the leaves with out it going into the container by tipping the pot on itrs side and giving them a good shower

will the concentrated liquid kill off the plants? i did try and get as much out as i could taking the top layer of soapy soil and gave them a top up with new soil. :dontknow:

p.s. this is the little ones second offensive on the strawberry plants, yesterday he pull all the unripe strawberries of one of my plants ,the rest are safe for now. do you think i could get away with building a run for a 3 year old to keep him off the plants ?

You need probably about 4 foot square & 4 foot high - unless you're going to sleep him in it too.....

Apart from that, just keep a good eye on them - I've not had any experiences like this, so I can't offer advice about the plants.

You could always nail one foot of the LO to the floor of course.. then just let him run round in circles all day!!

As it's Ecover the plants will probably be OK ... but I think I would get the hosepipe out this evening and spray some clean water to dilute any Ecover you missed.
Ordinary (diluted) soapsuds are fine on plants and in fact is a cure of sorts for greenfly, blackfly and other assorted nasties.

bungee cord tied to the back of his britches and a convenient post would be good exerceise, fun and limit the damage he could do ;-)

update on the plants!

it looks like, as far as ecover laundry liquid is concerned , tomato plants have fought back like chuck norris and are doing well!

strawberries look abit like bruce willis at the end of die hard! little worse for wear but still green and growing.

the peas on the other hand gave it as much effort as katie price does with her attempts at class so looks like im going to have to do a quick replant and hope i get some sort of a crop!

I had a LO who used to sabotage my garden and developed a wonderful game where I tied him to a tree trunk for short periods...he was the cowboy and I was the indian...I used to make the occasional warcry and he thought it was great fun! ! Let me get on with things like cleaning the chicken run without quite so much help!! Probably get reported to NSPCC nowadays!! He remembers the game and only recently realised he had been conned...(he is 24now!!...3yr at time!) I should add that there was alittle bit of interaction too, but it immobilised him for a short while and encouraged imaginative play  !! Glad most of the plants are surviving!
