Stiff plastic net to protect strawberries from bird attacks

There are only fifteen plants and the birds are taking every berry as it ripens. Robins are the worst feeder. The net chosen is stiff plastic and , since the loose netting traps birds and should not be used. The solution is not ideal, I must look for some cheap fabric netting, and improve on the support system.

To support net we use half hoops made from stiff black polythene piping (used for irrigation) with a stake up the pipe on either side to set them in the ground with. This was quite acceptable if a sufficiently strong and long stake was used.

However - as I`ve agreed on another thread - in my half century of gardening I`ve never seen or heard of a bird being trapped by, or under, a net.
Perhaps they`re a bit more canny around here. :?
We are stardust, we are golden, and we`ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.

We usually used a soft black plastic mesh - the birds sometimes got in and trapped (in a bird heaven!) From time to time they did get trapped, but in fruiting season (when the net was on) we were picking daily anyway so we almost always beat the cat to them

Does the fake snake work?
Snake does little, except startle humans.
