First one is on cows, next one will be on chickens. 3 in total.

Re: The Private Life Of... (Jimmy Doherty on cows, chickens,
We watched the chicken one last night. There wasn`t a lot that we didn`t know already but the bits about the superiority of hens` eyesight and their surprising teachability were interesting. And the fact that they could tell that a stuffed fox dragged along on a trolley was no threat.
A fun programme.

Re: The Private Life Of... (Jimmy Doherty on cows, chickens,
I thought it was interesting that chickens' eyes have different uses. One to watch for predators and the other to look for food. Slightly scary, then, that every time I go near them they look at me first out of one eye, then they turn their heads and use the other one. It must mean they are weighing me up:
FOOD or FOE?

Re: The Private Life Of... (Jimmy Doherty on cows, chickens,
I experimented with this eyesight thing.
Ginger has a habit of flying over the fence into the veg plot and I have to entice her back if she won`t let me pick her up. I tried approaching her from the right - the food side - and succeeded in picking her up every time!
Result!
