is leylandii poisonous to chickens?

Post: # 202895Post herbalholly »

Does anyone know whether leylandii chippings are poisonous to hens? I'm thinking of putting them down at the muddy end of their run.
Thank you

 I had been using them a lot as my other half butchered my 14 yrs old nice variegated leylandii. With the muddy chook area, I just lay the clippings including branches - the chooks just ignores them but it did smell lovely and fresh all the time. They will take a long time to compost if at all. So no muddy patch anymore and chooks smell pine fresh and still alive and kicking. They have internal radar about what is edible or not - at least mine does. I do tease them now and then with new type of leaves and watch carefully on their reactions. They won't touch it. :thumbright:
