Hello welcome to ish. :flower:

PSB is the shortened version of Purple Sprouting Broccoli. A rather tasty vegetable available through the winter. Very cheap to grow but stupidly expensive to buy.

I hope that helps.

Is it easy to grow and when should it be planted? It's one of my very favourite veggies!

Our youngest son was very disappointed when we first grew PSB. He couldn't work out why the plants were so quiet. He'd thought it was Purple Shouting Broccoli! :D

That's cute!! I must admit, when I was little I thought the chorus of the hymn "Give me oil in my lamp" went "zinga zanga" instead of "Sing hosanna" We have chosen it for our wedding, hopefully everyone will get the words right!

Shouting veg, I like the idea of that. He He.
I'm going to look for seeds and try to grow it here. I've seen seeds for green sprouting brocolli but not for purple. Is it always called that or does it have other names that it might go by. I've noticed that what we call one thing in OZ has a different name in UK or US etc.

keep an eye on it though, when it's planeted out over the summer you'll need to make sure it's free of pesties until it's big enough to cope on its own. a large caterpillar can decimate a small brocolli plant in a day.

oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very

Always wondered as a child why the "warmer morial" seemed just as cold as everywhere else.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

Well, you've got early PSB and late PSB... I grow early PSB over winter, so that it starts sprouting as soon as the weather warms up and gives you something early in the year when very little else is around. I start it in modules sometime around August for planting out in September. It's no harder to grow than any other brassica, but since it's around when little else is, it's a favourite for the pigeons - keep it netted.
Cheers
