Apples finished

Post: # 227251Post Odsox »

Cooked the last of our Bramleys from store yesterday :(
Can't complain too much I suppose, they kept us going for over 8 months, and I have had apple & blackberries, apple & blackcurrants, apple & raspberries or just plain stewed apple, pretty much every morning in my muesli.
Oh well, on to the rhubarb next week.

I don't think my brand new Bramley tree has survived its first winter. :(

All the other fruit trees are in bud but no signs of life on that one.

One day I hope that we will get loads off apples and processed apple goods (cider :drunken:) from our mini orchard. Till then I take heart in the fact that last year when it was growing in it's first year everyone on the allotment said it looks great - it's a row of cordon apple trees marking one of the boundaries of our plot.

Do you think they are just slow? That's what I'm hoping because nothing's happening to mine either. :( The gala apple has flower buds and leaves already.

8 months is not bad going at all Odsox, how many trees was it from. Roll on rhubarb!

That was from two dwarf rootstock Bramleys, plus a Newton and an Early Vic to start with.

I've been eyeing up the rhubarb for several weeks now, but was told I'd got to finish the apples first.

Edit to add; I bought a third Bramley tree from Lidl which turned out to be a Cox, or something very similar.

Certainly not, I wouldn't dilute my rhubarb with apple.
That would be sacrilege.

My favourite crumble is rhubarb, apple and elderberry. I think the rhubarb is reading for a little picking but I might have to use already stewed apple. Blooming flower buds all over the rhubarb again though.
