Complete afternoon tea

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Complete afternoon tea

Post: # 239817Post Odsox »

Just had a very productive day and realised when I'd finished that I had made an afternoon tea.

First off, it was bread making day and I made my normal 3 x 1lb loaves.
Yesterday I picked the last of our blackcurrants and this morning made 5lb of jam with some of them.
We have been given a quantity of 10 litre boxes of cream and this afternoon I made about 2lb of butter, destined for the freezer as unsalted butter will keep in the freezer for at least 6 months.
Lastly I made a batch of almond biscuits with some of the butter I made yesterday .....

So, bread, butter & jam with a plate of biscuits anyone ?

Righto, I'll make sure that I open the gate.
Biscuits might be in short supply though.

Well you could have left some of the cream as cream then made scones and had a cream tea.

Umm, I still have about 12 litres of the stuff left ... but you're right, especially as I have buttermilk to make the scones with.

Had to buy an ice cream maker to try to deal with the rest, good job there's plenty of fruit about. Blackcurrant first and then strawberry and then loganberry and then blackberry and then ... well chocolate ought to be in there somewhere and rum & raisin.

you would need to make clotted cream to make a proper cream tea

but the real question is.. you didn't grow your own tea ? pretty poor in my opinion

I beg to differ - it was always whipped cream (proper stuff not squirty stuff  ) when I were a lass, cos in those days clotted cream was just something available in the West Country. How times have changed - and I do agree, clotted is MUCH better than whipped. :thumbright:

Tony how exactly did you 'acquire' all this cream? :dontknow:

Ah but .... I don't drink tea as it happens, but I do drink peppermint tea with honey in it.

Mandy, my OH's works is closing down and there are a quantity of 10l boxes going gash, and I can't abide waste.
