Ice cream maker recipes??
I have become the proud owner of an ice cream maker, but it only came with a few recipesideas. Got a glut of raspberries & blackberries and would appreciate any tried and trusted recipes. Makes about 750ml at a time...only problem will be not eating too much! So any low fat and lower sugar recipes might be useful...do they exist?

Re: Ice cream maker recipes??
I've been chucking yoghurt and jam in mine lately and it makes a not too sickly but tasty ice-cream (the sugar content will depend on how much sugar you add when jam-making). Alternatively make custard with milk, vanilla sugar and egg yolks and then add whatever fruits/flavours you want. Okay, so it's not entirely fat or sugar-free but you can feel virtuous that you haven't used any double cream
Oh and here's a lovely recipe for basil and lemon sorbet and you can get away with using far less sugar than listed. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emer ... index.html

Re: Ice cream maker recipes??
Just copied this from a posting I made last year on another forum, I may even have posted this recipe here too!
"I had an ice cream maker for my birthday as I have a lot of soft fruit that I thought could be put to yet another use and have used it three times so far, but last night's Raspberry Yoghurt ice cream was the best ice cream I have EVER eaten so I am going to share the very simple recipe with you!
250 g raspberries
100g caster sugar
300ml plain yoghurt
Mush up or blend rasps then sieve if you want to - I did. Mix up bog standard plain yog (I used Bien Vu so nothing fancy! but this could be amazing with Greek yog) with caster sugar and the sieved raspberry juice. Chill it first then pour into your ice cream maker et voila - wonderful pink ice cream, really creamy (wouldn't know it was yog in it) and the most amazing concentrated fresh raspberry taste. Soooooo simple and low fat too!!!!!!"

Re: Ice cream maker recipes??
Thanks for recipes...basil and lemon sorbet sounds scrumptious! I actually made some raspberry ice cream yesterday eve but may have put too many raspberries in it as MMM recipe says 250 g and I put in 450g...yet to try it but also was too impatient
and only froze the bowl for 7hrs so may not be very successful...trying it for desert tonight...looks great but test is in the eating! Will let you know!

Re: Ice cream maker recipes??
This is my favourite ice-cream recipe. I'm afraid it doesn't fit any of your criteria but it's so simple.
Lemon 'cheesecake' ice-cream
Large tub double cream
A few large tablespoons of lemon curd
Crumbled digestive biscuits.
Combine the lemon curd and the cream.
Pour into ice-cream maker.
Add the biscuits a few at a time as the paddle goes round.
Eat.

Re: Ice cream maker recipes??
But very nice!
why do all the "naughty" recipes make me want to try them NOW!! I had a recipe something like yours, Thomzo, which had crumbled meringues instead of digestive biscuits. Made it without the electric tho...lots of beating..wonder how many calories that uses??

Lots, that's why they are nice.

Re: Ice cream maker recipes??
@MMM I was actually wondering if doing the beating manually negates some of the calories in the ice cream!! My warped way of getting round eating calorific food!

I didn't read that right did I?
Of course it uses energy which burns calories, and gives you big muscles on one arm too.
