Greetings, people of Selfsufficientish!
My name is Drew; I live in Maynooth, Ireland, where my wife and I bought a house about three years ago. We're gradually doing up bits of it (or, in some cases, undoing strange things the previous owner did), and bringing the garden (big-ish for what's essentially a suburban house) gradually from its original state as all lawn to something more in the cottage-kitchen-garden style.
I work for a small online marketing consultancy company in Dublin, but I was raised in my father's carpentry shop, and grew up in a house where growing vegetables and keeping chickens (or goats, a cow, ferrets...) was pretty ordinary. So I'm not that far removed from the land. Our livestock currently consists of two cats.
I'm interested in growing vegetables and fruit (already under way), keeping chickens (soon, now), wild food, and indeed food culture in general, cooking, and the various bits of DIY and carpentry needed for the house and gardens. I blog a bit about those as the topics come up. I'm also interested in games, both online and offline, literature, sf and fantasy, economics, geography, geology, and, well... lots of things, really. Music-wise, I listen to metal (folk metal in particular), punk, classical and baroque (with a particular love of trumpet concertos), reggae, drum and bass, and ambient techno.
There are about a dozen threads in various places here that I want to respond to, so I reckoned I'd better get the introductory post in first.
