Saying hello from Curacao.
I want to say hallo to everybody on the forum and give you a little introduction.
I'm Emma, 31 years old and living to together with my boyfriend on the tropical island, Curacao (close by Aruba).
The first 29 years living in the northern part of the Netherlands, moved to Curacao because of the relation with a dutch guy living in Curacao (structural engineer specialist in Eco buildings and systems and straw houses).
I used to have my own stable in the Netherlands (dressage, training and breeding) what I sold when moving to Curacao, from the money I got from selling the stable I got 16 acres of farming land next to my parents in The Netherlands, so that my horses are close by them and I cant spent the money on stupid things
Living on a tropical island can be fun but it's not my cup of tea, I'm missing the seasons, the rain, the forest, my family and horses we soon started making plans to return to The Netherlands, hopefully this will be in the next 5 years.
The idea is to start our own little slow live farm.
On the moment we are looking for the old fruit trees kinds and to let the plant this autumn, hoping to get a 150 trees in total (different kinds of apples, prear, cherries trees) and different kinds of berries), so when we come back we will have enough fruits already.
We have been lucky that the local government changes some status of the farmland in to building land so that we also can build a strawhouse on the ground and build 3 houses to sell to get some more back up money if growing our own food is not going as planned.
In the meantime we are reading a lot of info about what kinds of live stock we want to keep, how many and what we need to grow to te able to eat from our own land and make some money of it.
Also how to used the land on the best possible way because the horses are going to stay (that is also a income).
On this moment we try to be as self supporting as possible, baking our own bread, growing some vegetables but it's hard working full time and with the lizard that love the everything that is green.
I will be doing alot of reading on this forum and hope when returning to the Netherlands to be ready for a new lifestyle.
Greetings Emma

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Re: Saying hello from Curacao.
Welcome to the forum and ' groeten' from another Dutch expat who grew up in the North of the Netherlands.
Sounds like you have a great (lizard-free) plan. Wish I had so much space for trees!
