Help needed.....What gage wire?

Post: # 245507Post Bristolbelle »

Good morning everyone from very sunny Bristol.

I'm building a fixed chicken run and converting an old playhouse (see pics on my last post). I've been looking on various sites to find the right galvanised wire mesh for the run. The run is going to be 8ft x 8ft x 6ft high with a wire top as well. so I need quite a lot. A lot of info sugessed a 12 gage wire. But crikey what a price
Does anyone have any good ideas/ know of any suppliers. I live in the city so I need the run to be fox proof.
Any sugestions will be greatly recieved.

Oh, didn't see this post. Just put a suggestion on your other post about ivy etc. Might be helpful.

I don't know if this is just my local garden centre, but. When they have stone (bigger than gravel sort of stuff) delivered it comes on a pallet with this really strong wire mesh around it. The chap gave it away free because the company was charging him to take it away . I have used it in lots of way.
Firstly it is very strong I used a machine (grinder thingy) to cut it up. Here are at least two uses I have found. I cut it to shape, split some old hose pipe wrapped it around the rough edges and secured it with ties then just added elasticated rope and hooks Voila Dog guard.
Also used to just prop into place around plants that are either flopping over or being trodden on ( in my case by a rather heavy GSD) I have added these photos to give a size perspective (dog looking a bit apprehensive at being boxed in by the coal bunker
yippee I did it. Might I say without any direct help ! well I did have to go back through the search route. and thanks there were instructions. Not to self don't be lazy.

i've just worked out how much wire I need..... 3ft wide at 40 mtrs! I rang around my local garden centres and no luck with the wire there trinder. Bowland stone came up a big fat zero as well :( There is a place online via ebay that sells 19 gage wire, but would this be strong enough to keep mr fox out :dontknow: I'm at a loss as to what to do :sad11:
