It's happened again! I've spent the last few days almost permanently in the garden. There are lots of eggs in nests, the queen bumbles are out and about, and all's apparently well with the world.
Except there are literally hundreds of ladybirds around - and nothing (absolutely nothing) for them to eat. Watch out for a plague of greenfly this year and next.

Re: Early summer
You can't move in my garden, and house, for ladybirds. So how come I have a nasty infestation of greenfly on my chives?

Loads of ladybirds which have overwintered here, yet when I went to pick the flowering shoots of the curly kale I noticed they were covered in aphids!
Haven't seen a swallow yet but I keep looking.

Hoopoes! I'm so envious. I saw one in my neighbour's garden a few year's ago here in Brittany - that's the only one I've ever seen in France. Saw one in Spain and several in Greece so as I've hardly ever seen them they are quite exotic to me!
