After a little bit of research I found linking to our competition improved our PR. Pretty much overnight we went from PR5 to PR6. this now means we are within the top 10 for self sufficiency and for self sufficient on goggle this means that we get much more visitors and can spread the self sufficient word more, not bad eh?

Can be a bit dangerous to judge cause and effect with page ranking. So links to your pages from other sites are a bad thing? Well obviously not, a lot of things effect ranking and there is a significant time lag effect as well, so like I say best not to be too sure about what went on. You do have one hell of a ranking though :)
