Gooseberries

When I was younger I didn't really like gooseberries as they seemed too sour, but as I have grown up I have found that I like them. I have bought a variety called 'Hinnonmaki Green' can you eat these off a bush or are they better cooked first?

If left to fully ripen on the bush they are lovely and sweet or a bit tart if picked earlier.
