One month out of the cupboard

Post: # 283836Post Flo »

This week I've had a top up delivery from the wholefood co-operative group that I'm in. I've now looked at the cupboards. They are bulging. So I'm back to the one month challenge of seeing how self sufficient I can be.

Milk and spread for the bread (will be a lot of scones to use up the flour) I can't do as I've no source of swaps. The freezer is full of veg but no onions though plenty to use at the moment. Fruit is another matter as all the summer supplies have been eaten by self and family.

I can certainly manage a week out of the fridge/freezer/cupboard to cover everything including fruit and onions, milk and spread.

Has anyone else looked at the stores and thought time to take stock?

Frequently Flo, both in the larder and the freezer.
My problem is that I tend to view stored goods, like dried haricot beans, bottled tomatoes etc, as "emergency rations", only to be used when the weather is bad, or I can't be bothered to go outside and get some fresh veggies.
Well, maybe not quite as drastic as that, but they do tend to get left for later.
Consequently, every now and again we also live out of the freezer/store cupboard until it down gets to sensible quantities.
Tony

In my case it's quite easy - as income has been going down, so have the cupboard stores. Not that there's nothing left, but a lot less than there used to be. I could still survive for a couple of weeks, I'd say, but the food wouldn't be terribly exciting.

Who said that food had to be exciting if money is short?

That's true... Actually, I might last longer if I restricted my diet to porridge. Scottish porridge oats were half price not long ago at Lidl's, so I bought 8kg.
