101 things to do in the office when bored

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

101 things to do in the office when bored

Post: # 31960Post Andy Hamilton »

1. go onto selfsufficientish forum and catch up with the days goings on
2. See how many song titles you can fit into a work phone call or email. e.g. "Thank you for your order it will get to you as soon as posible, dependant on the cross town traffic we would never blame it on the rain if it gets there late. "
hmm not feeling that inspired this morning.

3. Unplug the reciever from a collegues phone and ring them up and watch them try to work out what is going on.
4. Use skype or messenger.
5. start writing a story by email with collegues.

NB - Don't want to get anyone the sack so be careful when doing some of these things some offices are stricter than others.

Has this thread go anything to do with self-sufficiency?

17. Figure out how you can afford to quit your office job and do something more stimulating/in keeping with your principles.

18. Quit your job.

or else:

19. Decide you need to pay off your debts before you can quit your job.

20. Get back to work knowing that by doing so you are hastening the day you can quit.

or else:

21. Apply for a different job where you would feel more motivated and have job satisfaction and not be bored.

or perhaps:

22. Apply for a home-study course or residential weekend course or voluntary work that makes you more qualified for a more motivating job.

23. Don't just sleepwalk through your life. It goes past terrifyingly fast (even if it doesn't seem that way at 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon in the office). Figure out what you really really want to achieve with your life and make it happen. You're never going to win the lottery. You're never going to be left a million pounds in the will of a long-lost relative, or be talent-spotted in the street by Eric Clapton's manager, or be picked out of the crowd at random to bat for England. Your Fairy Godmother is not coming. Make a plan. Make it happen. Do it yourself.

30. Start edging your chair towards the door - try not get noticed tho
31. Start addressing everyone in the office as Dave regardless of sex etc
32. Leap up shouting 'Eureka thats it I have it' disappear out of the office, returning later as if nothing happened - When questioned about the behaviour simply say 'I'm sorry, are you feeling ok? I have been sat at my desk all morning.
33. Move vital office equipment when no one else is around - sit back and watch the confusion as they hunt the stapler chair or whatever else you felt like moving

(Madanna probably needs to get out more! Thankfully having taken advice from further up I am in my last week at current dire job and starting a brand spankin new one on Monday so dont plan on doing the above in the first few weeks!! :geek: )

Blimey how the world has changed! Last time I worked in an office there was no such thing as email or the internet (well it may have existed in its early form but was not common like now).

All we had were computer games, but couldn't play them during work time because of open plan offices.

I just had to work!!! And when I didn't have any work - I had to pretend to work. That was the very worst thing of all, pretending to be busy when there was sweet FA to do!!!

(Actually I think that is a serious contender for the worst job in history - having nought to do for 8 hours every day in an office but not being able to DO anything else :( ).

that is bad, I got quite good at holding the important paper in one job I had. Spending the day chatting to people - start off by showing them the important paper and pointing at it when talking then carry on chatting. Move on to next desk and repeat.
