Thank you for my bags I recived them yesterday morning and have given one to my mam, however the reaction I have had when I produce it to put my shopping in is odd. The lady in the bakers yesterday thought it was lovely and a good idea when I loaded up my bread rolls however the reaction of the lady in the post office when I collected my paper and bits and pieces was odd indeed, do you want a bag - no thanks I've got one - oh err ok then. The way she said it was as if it was the strangest thing she had ever heard and as if to check my sanity she asked me again did I want a bag - even though I had already packed my goods. I'm off to the library later so goodness knows what the reaction will be !

I have always used cloth bags, and I'm used to the odd looks I get.

I always get odd looks and comments when I say I don't need a bag and even odder looks when I take fruit and veg to the till not in a plastic bag!

Ah, you got them then. Sorry it was addressed to the Self-Sufficientish folk Andy just forward me your address and not name. My local shop keeper has stopped his involentary bag twitching hand when he serves me now. He used to give me funny looks when I would forget a bag and walk home carrying my milk and bread by hand.

HAHA - I get that when I go to my local shop (I have to drive there as it's 5 miles away) and I'm only going out to the car which is parked pretty much outside... 'are you sure you can manage - let me give you a bag'

Showing my vintage here I know - but when I was first of an age to go shopping you had to pay for a carrier bag, and it was thick brown paper with string handles that cut into your fingers and the name of the shop on the side. The price was quite significant too - probably threepence or something. Except you always took your shopping basket when you went shopping!

I've got a good one - I had to go into evil T***o tonight and had a rowette with the till girl - she said that you could only get T***o points for reusing a plastic carrier bag and cloth ones didn't count! (I set her straight, very loudly indeed)

last year I bought a DVD fron HMV for a present and when I told the guy behind the counter I did not require a bag he said he could not give me it unless it was in a bag! eventually I took the bag only to leave it on the end of the counter as I walked out with a smug look on my face.

some shops do that for security reasons. for some reason, the receipt is not enough to prove that you bought the item there, and you have to have a bag.

I always take it out of the bag outside the door of the shop and put it into my bag, then i either ball their bag up and throw it into the shop (i know...litterer!) or i put it on the head of a cardboard cut-out display or something within reach.

I can't remember the last time that I bought anything from HMV and I don't think they made me have a bag, could have been years ago. I would kick up a fuss if that was their atitude. The only time that I find it difficult is the nice old ladies in charity shops, I have a bag- showing them a rucksack that has had loads of root veg in it and so covered in mud. "you can put a nice new shirt in there" me "I will carry it then" - old lady, "nonsense, it is in a bag now here you go".....
