Paranoia?

Post: # 39376Post the.fee.fairy »

I'm not sure if i'm just being paranoid but...

We've just been issued with 'keys' for the vending machines. The idea is that you put money on them and use them instead of cash in the vending machines.

Each employee has a number attached to them for the key.

Mine will be staying in a box in front of my PC and will never be used.

Is it paranoia? I'm sure that they'll be able to track what i buy, when i buy it, if not where the key is at any time.

Thoughts please.

I agree they probably can track what you buy but there's no way of knowing if they will

The more they know, the more they want to know.

Or to quote Sir Humphrey Appleby: "I need to know *everything*. How else can I judge whether or not I need to know it? "

I had one of those when I worked for the council - kept leaving it in the machine so gave up and brought in a jar of coffee and a pack of bikkies instead. I proved to be a much better idea anyway as the boss provided one of those big flask things and it saved walking up and down 5 flights of stairs to fetch the coffee for everyone else too!!!

Glad you mentioned that.

It can be a bit of a puzzle to realise that there are two people posting here, who collectively call theselves HelenAndChris, and often give no clue as to which one we are actually taliking to.

Or are you actually one person with two distinct personalities?

Anyway, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean theyre NOT out to get you!

Sorry sir we couldn't afford to be paranoid, we'll have to get by with just one.

Sorry, no more paranoid jokes, I promise!

Well, what and when you buy they will almost certainly be able to check up on, where the key is I think is unlikely, to locate a key over the range of an office would be very expensive (proximity entry cards are expensive enough and you have to get them a few inches from a sensor to detect them).

There is a world of difference from being able to do something and doing it though. We have a "log everything about everyone" phone system at work, so far the only information I have been asked to extract from it is if we have enough phone lines (and thats in 4 years).

That said, if it were me, I think I'd be with milims and bring in my own coffee, it would be much cheaper anyhow
How hard can it be, how long can it take. What could POSSIBLY go wrong

Both Helen AND myself (This being Chris lol) do the same sort of sign off, except we change the names round as to who is actually responding. Must be something to do with us being aging hippy types and our way of looking at things. Also we think pretty much the same most of the time and discuss so much that we both feel that more often than not what either of us posts is usually what the other would have had some input in anyway!
Helen tends to be on more than me though as I tend to tire earlier and easier due to having RA and when i get in from having to organise all the trades on the site I'm mentally exhausted too.

Being on site we just do the usual buiders break, mash up sit and chat about anything under the sun, or in the past few days how cold it's been and the fact that the driving rain has no respect for waterproofs at all. Amazing how even the smallest gap can get you totally drenched!

On the plus side of vending machines, if you can wangle it that the boss wants a brew, you usually can get them to buy you one too (Unless they are stingey!)

i don't get coffee from the machine very much - i have chai teabags, and they're much more yummy!

I do buy chocolate at least once a day though.

Its not the fact that i spend a lot of time or money at the machines (or don't, as the case may be) its the fact that, should they want to, someone somewhere can see that i've had 5 chocolate bars this week (one each day...), or that i prefer galaxy to twix, or something.

Its just more useless information that people can get hold of that they don't need!!
