New chicks !

Post: # 42492Post Camile »

Hello everyone,

I know it's a common thing for people that keeps poultry ..but I had to share it with everyone because I'm proud of my girl !

My Silky hen, called "Pomponette", hatched between 2 days ago and yesterday 6 chicks out of 6 eggs ! so not a bad result at all .. knowing that it's November already and fertility rate is not supposed to be great !

The first one was piping on Monday evening, and hatched on the tuesday morning, then 5 were born on the tuesday evening and the last one was piping, and was born this morning.

So here they are:

There is 3 yellow chick ("orp x Ls" hen x loads of other things, rooster was a cross of a cross of a cross) ..

2 Black ones that is from the same hen, and normaly same rooster.

1 naked neck x RIR chick .. (wich came as a surprise as I forgot I had put a RIR egg under her) ..

Thanks for them ! (and to reassure the naked neck that he's cute as well) ..

I think they are cute as well .. but there is definitely an "ugly duckling" in the lot in my opinion .. but they are so small that they can only be cute ..

next step is the guinea x naked neck:

Good morning ..

Here is an update for the softies like me !

They are all doing great .. one of them doesn't go out much from underneath the hen so I believe he the last one that hatched ...

But the rest is eating fine .. I didn't see them drinking yet but I would assume they do ... at least some of them walked on the water .. and their "mum" would show them !

The naked neck chick turns out to actually the cutest one of them all when he looks at you . he has a lovely dark red color ...

Still no idea of what the 2 black ones are gonna be like or where they came from ? and 2 of the yellow ones are massive compare to the others ..

They are all in the shed now with the hen and rooster ... so they have some light for longer than 6 hours to help them growing a bit ..

and what do you thing about their food ? does that sound correct by the look of it ?

I think they are lovely and cute and fluffy and......

But I don't like the Guinea fowl crossed with the naked neck. It's horrible! Looks like the poor thing is halfway to being plucked for Xmas!!
