Well, this could be a long story, or a short one... regardles of the length it ultimately boils down to this...
I was a member of another site until crazy PM's began pitting members against members and things all got really weird and quite nasty.
The site then split, with some heading off to set up their own version of 'the ideal site' and then continually bombarding the old site with gang like commentary and vexation, and ongoing invitations for people to join their side. It all got quite boring.
My grandma used to tell me not to play sides, so I figured it was time to wander off and just find other folks who were quite happy doing their own thing and were happy with the ripple effect their individual attempts at living life made on the world. (As opposed to tidal waves of tumultuous group judgments on the world, its inhabitants and their personalities experienced elsewhere).
When mentioning this to a cyber mate, he suggested this site. I called in, said G'day, received a friendly and easy going welcome from Andy and the girls (M3, Shirlz & Shiney) and when our other Aussie mate returned from holidays in the UK (Sir Wombat) he began sharing some laughs and I realised it was OK that I was not in the UK and we could still share things from here. A bit of helpful guidance from Muddy, assured me that not only would I find a laugh here, I could also find answers. When you don't have people handy to turn to and discuss a problem or idea, it can make all the difference as to whether its solved or comes to life.
And so I stayed. Many things have changed for me this year... Work, study, farm stuff, family, friends... it's been great to have this place to just check into, chatter on, find a laugh, or chew over a problem. Over time, we begin to think we are getting to know people online. We agree, or disagree, discuss and debate, but there is never any nastiness here. Sometimes I hesitate, wondering if my Aussie banter may offend or be read without the grin it is sent with, but on the whole I have relaxed here... and can just share, laugh, whatever. I like it.
However, some may have noticed I am still very hesitant and quite brief with PM's!!!

Same here - although, oddly enough it came up with the SSish forum and it was a little while before I found the main site!Millymollymandy wrote:Me too! I was googling for humane ways to despatch chickens and found information on the forum. It toome some time too to realise that there was a 'site' as well!
In the end I didn't need to deal with our expanding chicken flock as a fox got into the hen house (after strong winds damaged it) and killed a couple. Most of the others refused to go home at night after that, so we lost the two cockerels that we had plans for. At least I know what to do next year...

I can't honestly remember. It was probably the result of a websearch, but I did look at several other sites (and joined one or two other forums) before arriving here. I may have just been following links from one of those sites.
But suely the more interesting question is not how we go here, but why we stay here. That might require a bit more thought.

I stay here as it is definelty one of my greatest achievements getting this forum and website going. Well when I say I - I also mean the other mods, writers of articles and of course Dave.
I have to say that I also stay here as it is a great place to spend time on, sometimes eating into the time that I should be spending on other things. The forum has become a fantastic resource and when I have a selfsufficientish problem it is good to know that I can come here to get an answer. On top of that you get to know people on here and dare I say it you become friends with the people on here.

So, what's Dave do exactly? Is he a behind the scenes man, then?Well when I say I - I also mean the other mods, writers of articles and of course Dave.
Or maybe, the stand-in for when you get really busy and can't attend an appearance somewhere?
Just askin...
