The Selfsufficientish Bible coming to a bookshop near you
Yesterday afternoon a 17 page book contract, with Hodder and Stoughton, for "The Selfsufficientish Bible" to be published in May 2008 was signed. This book will cover every aspect of our lifestyles giving advice on how to cut down, reuse, recycle and more, basically it will be along the same lines as the website's ethos but go into greater detail in areas that we have already covered and some that we have not.
We have also signed up for an as yet untitled smaller paperback book. The main book will be 150,000 words and the smaller 25, 000 words.
What really helped clinch the deal was amount of hits that we get, so really it is thanks to everyone that visits this site that this is happening for me and Dave. It sounds too small to say simply thank you, but what else can I say. I am truley greatful for everyone having faith in this site and supporting us dispite the dodgey server.
And yes we are both totally over the moon.

Cheers Shilz, just did a quick search on amazon and found this -
They are quick!
It might seem quite expensive but we plan to have competitions to give away signed copies, also a cheaper paperback will follow. The first competition I think might be a photographic competition and the best picture(s) will end up in the book.

We have an editor to get the words in right order Muddy!
We have time to do as we have both given up our jobs to do this full time. Some of it is already written, the sections I have written so far have not needed info from the forum but no doubt we will be taking some info from here.
M3 I nearly did write something in the author bit, very exciting being able to do that. Not sure about the film have not seen much non fiction make it to the silver screen - except the da vinci code

Cool!!!
I'll put it in my wish list soon.
Remember us when you're travelling to world (greenly...) ray mears stylee! Send me a postcard!!
And, if you should need any companions.....
Seriously, that's great news!
the strange thing is that i don't think about ish being a massive site (please don't take this the wrong way) because everyone on the forum feels like a big group of friends, even though they're miles apart, it still feels like you're in the pub putting the world to rights with fellow locals!
maybe Ish Island is not that far off after all eh guys...

I second that. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that. It almost brings a tear to my eye.the strange thing is that i don't think about ish being a massive site (please don't take this the wrong way) because everyone on the forum feels like a big group of friends, even though they're miles apart, it still feels like you're in the pub putting the world to rights with fellow locals!

Yay - it's official then!!!!
I'm afraid I haven't placed my Amazon pre-order yet but I will get one, honest!
Fantastic news for you both. This site is so great and (without getting soppy) I wouldn't have 'met' so many great people or learnt so much if it weren't for you guys.
I was going to make a tongue in cheek comment about a spellchecker but Martin has beaten me to it!

Just when you think you're in it up to your neck & it can't get any worse, something craps on your head.
I third it!Annpan wrote:Congratulations

I get the point about the intamacy of this site, it does seem like local. I hope we can get some of that feeling over in the book to, I have already mentioned a couple of people here. In fact Nev(wombat) is mentioned in the present introduction, he is also the one that introduced me to solar ovens which was another thing that helped us get the deal.
If time and money permits I am contemplating a two or three week road and rail tour of the uk for insperation and advice, so might meet up with some of you on the way.
Hmm spellchecker - whatever four?
