So on Friday the 13th is anyone superstitious about today? Well perhaps not our friends down under as it is tomorrow already.

I'm not superstitious
Well actually I am a little I have got over the magpie (one for sorrow) thing after seeing one on its own whilst in a funeral procession for my grandad. My mum started to freak that she had seen a single magpie, I said to her that surely this is a time that you are supposed to be sorrowful. Made me take stock and think about what rubbish superstitions are.

Well I wasn't superstitous about Friday 13th until Farepak collapsed on Friday 13th October.
I deliberately walk under ladders (although that's possibly a bit silly).
And my biggest pet hate is e-mails that say "pass this on to 2,000 people within the next 20 seconds or you're gonna die" or some variation of that theme. I absolutely, definitely, never pass them on, no matter how funny or clever the subject matter is. OK - I've never had the good things they promise, but I haven't had the bad luck either - touch wood.

Those emails always come from people who you have not spoken too for ages either, with subjects like "special friend". Yep they are rubbish.
I used to say salute magpies, emma my gf says something like, "hello Mrs MAgpie how are your wife and daughters". Most odd. A mate used to spit on his shoe and could only wipe it off when he saw a dog.

I do kinda believe in the magpie thing - though feel foolish for it.
but once there was a single magpie dancing about infront of me as I walked into the hospital to get my son's results.. and the news was not good. but then again.. define good luck? many got even worse results than us... so we are lucky etc
People tell me we are lucky to buy this house, and I guess we are. but the money came partly from hard earned savings over many years, and partly through inheritance. and we would gladly swap the house to have that special person back.
in the end I believe good luck is the ability to make what you have work for you. its believing that what you landed on was your feet.
also I never do the lottery.. so I 'win' a quid each week. himself says he doesn't do 10 rows on the lottery so he is even luckier.. 'winning' £10 a week....

I'm superstitious.
They're all there for a reason. And some of the modern ones...its unlucky to step on 3 drains in a row...if you ever see some purple-haired fairy walking backwards over 3 drains, you'll know she realised there were 3 too late!
There used to be one about royal mail vans. Can't remember that one now. I've got some books on superstitions, and it is really interesting where some of them came from. The ladder one was to do with the trinity - Father, Son and Holy Ghost and it was unluckt to break that trinity. Then, of course, in later times, there was the chance that a pot of paint might fall on your head!

This isn't really a superstition but along the same lines.
As I child in lived in Covent Garden and all the shops round there have basements which are accessed by metal trap doors set into the pavements. I was always really scared of walking over these trap doors and used to walk around them much to the annoyance of my parents - the pavements aren't very wide and when you have a small kid pushing you into the road it must be a bit annoying.
Anyway, I was proved right one day, just as I sidestepped one, it collapsed and the room underneath was on fire. Eeeek
So guess what - I still never step on any sort of ironwork in the pavement, from drains to manhole covers and especially not trap doors.

Well there was a big accident on the motorway near us this morning 2 dead, 20 injured and 50 cars involved (or so I heard).

I spent this morning at the hospital with my son (7) getting the metal staples out of the cut on his head. (put in in casualty a week ago)!

I gave up superstition as a new years resolution. Since we decided to have a wedding in May and knowing exactly how many wedding superstitions there were I made a conscious decision not to take heed of them, or any others.
I'm increasingly of the belief that any shops situated on or near retails parks only serve to make people unhappy.
