Amazing what you can do with a tiny yard!
Well as some of you will remember back in January we were toying with the idea of an allotment, but alas after waiting for ages for the council to get back to us the spot had already been taken so we decided to start a small crop of herbs and veggies in our garden. We now have growing:
Apples
Pears
Cherries
Lavender
Rosemary
Parsley
Mint
Marjoram
Oregano
Thyme
Coriander
Garlic
Red Chillis
Blackberries
Redcurrants
Rhubarb
Carrots
Rocket
Little Gem Lettuce
Lollo Rosso Lettuce
Hyssop
Broccoli
Red Mustard Lettuce
Sweetcorn
Marrow
Pumpkin
All happily growing in pots, container, troughs etc. We have already been munching on the herbs, chillis and rocket, roll on a couple of months!
So if you ever feel your garden is too small to start planting food, have a go. Our yard section of our garden (where our veggies etc are) is only 12 foot x 5 foot and we still have half of that left to play with later on in the year!
All very exciting!

wow!
well done you!
any chance of a picture?
I have an allotment but would like to keep some salads etc at home along with those plants 'screened' for seed saving.
I have a strip to the side of the house about five feet wide that I could fence off from the marauding hens
so I' looking for some inspiration

Way cool! I wish I had a piece of land for a garden. Since I don't I started a container garden with my flat-mates. I made a list of everything we've got growing, and its amazing what all fits on our balcony (granted we do have a rather large balcony, and actually there are three balconies):
- chili peppers (5 seedlings up)
- bell peppers
- physalis (Cape gooseberries)
- cherry tomatoes (almost about to bloom!)
- vine tomatoes
- strawberries
- German lettuce (Kopfsalat)
- Romain lettuce
- pumpkin
- calamondin orange tree
- basil (Italian)
- basil (Thai)
- Thyme
- parsley
- cilantro
- chives
- sunflowers
- peppermint
- rosemary
- lime tree
- lemon tree
We'll be lucky if we're able to go out on the balcony by the end of the summer![/img]

Bravo, you really have done well. Have you read "Square Foot Gardening"?
It has lots of things you can grow using just 1 sq.ft.
My friend Heather is facing the same challenge, shes going to be growing in containers on the balcony of a ground floor apartment.
Keep up the good work
